In First Grade, the foundations of learning are built as well as the child's self-esteem in order to gain confidence in their abilities to achieve independently.
An integrated, immersion approach takes place where the classroom becomes what we study and where all subjects are utilized and overlap, from science and math to language arts to social studies, to bring the topic of study to life.
The students make many books as we travel and explore our studies in science and social studies applying and repeating the skills learned in phonics, language, penmanship and art with creativity and purpose drawing, coloring, and writing their stories of knowledge gained and vocabulary enriched.
A thorough approach ensures each child has the foundations. As teacher, I don't assume they know- their learning is documented with numerous activities and work. Our hard work is balanced with fun, song, color, and hands-on creativity. Great strides are made in one year - the results are amazing!
